To the syncopated thunder of the MaracatuNação rhythms, and accompanied by dancers and circus performers, we will be parading through the city and occupying its streets, incorporating its architecture (buildings and structures) into the scenery of this celebration by using them for rapelled descents of percussionists, mid-air circus numbers, etc. Our goal is to occupy and add color to a variety of architectural spaces in hopes of creating new ways of seeing for our spectators.
The script of the parade looks to make use of structure, in both the literal-building sense and in the provocative-creative sense, to perform circus interventions, sketches, and rappel. Each parade will be different because each space will be different, and by including the space in the plan of the parade we hope to modify it with art and the new perspective the public sees it in.
It is important to stress that the Companhia Cênica Nau de Ícaros does not plan to reproduce the cultural manifestations already present in the areas we will be presenting. Instead, we plan to create a grand celebration with the public by combining the Maracatu Nação Party with a contemporary artistic recreation. The script, parade route, and performance locations will be defined in advance through the collaborative efforts established between Nau de Ícaros and the directors of the host organization(s) with whom we are involved.
