Ladies and Gentlemen...

Companhia Cênica Nau de Ícaros proudly presents: “CARAVAN NAU DE ÍCAROS,” a project that unites a variety of activities developed by the Companhia, including performances, workshops, parades and other events catered to special needs.

Cia. Cênica Nau de Ícaros

Companhia Cênica (Performance Company) Nau de Ícaros started in 1992 when it set out to ally traditional circus knowledge and experience with the worlds of the theater and dance. Since its creation, Nau de Ícaros has been responsible for a number of award winning shows. And over this time, the company’s cultural space for creative investigation has gained a name for its intense artistic exchange between artists, groups, directors and the general public.

Our research and creative inquiries, which bring us closer to the universes of the circus and Brazilian folk culture, reflect a wish to encounter our public by means of celebration. The rites and traditional parties found in both of these realms, so distant and forgotten by today’s large urban centers, are what connect us to our audience.

The work of Companhia Cênica Nau de Ícaros is characterized by the necessity to create a contemporary look at Brazilian folk culture. By making use circus language, we hope to promote works capable of transcending our physical limits and contaminating our public with activities that include: informative performances, Brazilian dance workshops, maracutu drumming workshops, circus for adults and children, circus parades, and theatrical performances.

In June 2004, Nau de Ícaros, was able to bring “Caravan” to festivals in Switzerland, Italy, France, and Belgium. We spent 75 days in Europe performing the activities proposed above in a variety of spaces and for a variety of audiences, thus making use of our research, which melds traditional knowledge with energy and the body, to develop an authentic, contemporary, and universal language.

  Eyes for liberating,

    sensations for attaining the wish,

      words for convincing minds,

        and the example to set bodies in motion;

          individuals.
